Training on Geochemical Applications in Mineral Exploration Successfully Completed

The practical training course titled "Geochemical Applications in Mineral Exploration," organized by the Association of Mining Geologists (MJD) from June 15–17, 2026, has been successfully completed. Conducted over three days with an intensive schedule, the training provided geological engineers in the sector with practical insights into the critical role of geochemical methods in mineral exploration.

The training was held in a hybrid format (combining in-person and online sessions) with limited enrollment. The program offered comprehensive content ranging from theoretical foundations to laboratory applications and fieldwork. Key Topics Covered in the Training:

Day 1 (MJD Training Hall):
•    Fundamental geochemistry concepts and disciplinary framework
•    Geochemical strategies in mineral exploration
•    QA/QC procedures and database management
•    Target generation and vectoring (with global examples)
Speakers: İlkay Kuşçu, Mesut Soylu, Erdem Yetkin, Yonca Yıldırım, İlkay Çevik, and coordinators.
Day 2 (Argetest Laboratory + MJD Training Hall):
•    Analysis methods and protocols: from field to laboratory
•    Accredited laboratory visit and sample preparation processes
•    Evaluation and reporting of geochemical analysis results
•    Data analysis and visualization session using IoGas & GIS (Koray Taşbiçen online; Nail Candemir onsite support)
Day 3 (MTA Tüvek and Gicik Epithermal Site):
•    Field trip, safety, and logistics
•    Drill core sampling and QA/QC practices
•    Soil, sediment, and rock sampling techniques (hands-on)
•    General field assessment and closing

The training team included Bayram Artun (coordinator), Berkin Uğurlu, Erdem Yetkin, İlkay Çevik, İlkay Kuşçu, Koray Taşbiçen, Mesut Soylu, Nail Candemir, Nuri Ceyhan, and Yonca Yıldırım Çörtenlioğlu. Participants had the opportunity to reinforce theoretical knowledge through practical application during laboratory visits and fieldwork at the Gicik site.
